I have asked on the SCS Forums, but noticed there is a lot more information on this site.

I use promods, however wish to put my hometown on there. Which is basically near Chester, UK. I noticed you have added the A55 and have signs for Chester. If I add my 'own' little town' on to the map if I include promods in the mods folder, how exactly does it work?

Can I create my own part of the map, no problems in the future providing you guys don't add on to that area as such?

I'm after a decent tutorial about 'mod mapping' and how it would actually work.

Any help would be great. thank you.

Just put ProMods in your mod folder and start mapping. Then you have to create a mod with your map of course. We can't guarentee you that we won't work there, rather the opposite.

I can't give you a perfect answer on this. But here goes:

So, you have the promods files in your mod folder, you're working on your own stuff, and you save it. You check which sectors you worked in (for example sec-0006-0002), go to Program Files/Euro Truck Simulator 2\base\map\Europe and delete every file which is NOT of the sectors you've edited. You only keep the sector files of the sectors you have worked on.

After you've saved your stuff in the editor and removed all the sector files, you right-click the "map" folder inside "Program Files/Euro Truck Simulator 2\base" and you press "Add to archive". Make sure "archive format" is set to ZIP. Then you save it as insertyourfilenamehere.scs. I prefer to name my files with "zzz" before the name (like zzzchester.scs), to ensure it loads after the ProMods map and overwrites it.

Put the .scs file in your mod folder and you're good to go.

Reminder: every time you save the mod you have to do the process I described.

And if you remove your mod from the mod folder, the map will be as Promods had made it. All your edits on the map will be gone, until you place your mod file back in the mod folder again.

I'm sure you knew some of it, but better safe than sorry.

Flabber, I appreciate your post and has helped me out an awful lot as I was wondering how turning it into a mod.

My next problem is, and I think it's on my behalf, I am getting an error about it been in 'read only' format? Have I extracted the SCS file incorrectly?

What is the exact error. Please post the relevant log entries, so we can get the relevant context.

I think you shouldn't worry about it too much. Does the map load anyway?

The map loads fine. I've not attempted to save yet. Still learning the editor.
