Performance on 2.4 pro mods.

Have paid for the Downloaz and installed the latest pro mods. Bought all the extra maps and got it running.
My pc isn't the newest any more, but it runs most games at 144 with some tweaks, prior versions of ETS2 were perfect and stable.
Recently it's been hovering over 80fps which is a far cry from stable 144fps @ 144hz.
I always have everything maxed besides these
ETS2
-------------
HDR
Anti aliasing.
Depth of field
Anisotropic filtering
NVIDIA
-------------
High performance mode
G-Sync on
No power saving
No Nvidia experience.
Basically the Nvidia side is perfect for ant game I throw at it, pc is cool at idle and load and is tweaked for performance.
My issue is, ETS2 just drops the FPS on the later versions of pro mods. I've followed the order for mods and I don't have any additional mods installed.
Went for ultra on def, I assumed a 1080sc would be able to handle that I usually have scale on 400 and mirrors on ultra.
Is the 1080 not an adequate card any more?
Is ETS2 GPU dependent over CPU?
Have tried a tonne of settings and it always reverts back to around 70-90fps, like it's struggling, even dropping the scaling doesn't help, nor does vsync /G-Sync.
Didn't have this issue before, I'm by no means a veteran on ETS2 but it's a great game (I have no idea why) quite addictive and I've even added local radio from back home.
Oculus CV1 is not a good experience either.
Gas anyone any tips? Would lowering the DD on the sef file from pro mods make a difference? Is a 1080 not enough?
I've tried all the options on Steam too, 64bit, open GL etc, doesn't change much.
Any help would be appreciated, cheers
And thanks for the mods, it does add a lot to the game.
Appreciated.
