As we already received many questions on Facebook about Northern Scandinavia here is a detailed response.
1) In the earliest version of the game (before patch 1.4.x) it was not possible to go so far north (no coordinates left)
2) The area that is covered by our map mod at the moment of writing covers an area of about 1000km West-East and 1000km North-South. This is easily more than 60% size of the original SCS map and it took us (2 guys) about 8 months to build
3) Doing Northern Scandinavia (towards Tromsø, Umeå, etc.) will take another 8 months whereas the landscape in between is largely forest, lakes and no big cities. We don't believe it creates the diversity the game play needs at the moment.
So therefore we prefer to focus on building other European countries for more variation.
It is not impossible that we may add some stuff up north (like Trondheim) but it's very unlikely we will make it a lot further than what is included in the pack. Sorry.

It could've been sweet to catch a ferry from Umeå to Vasa for instance

This might sound crazy, but I believe this to be good news. Bergen is already north enough for me, and I don't see much point in going further, especially if it's for one city that is hundreds of miles from the nearest other (it would be further than the maximum delivery distance for new players). If you do go as north as that, you must add some Swedish cities like Östersund and Sundsvall to make the journey there more worthwhile.
Anyway, I still agree that the rest of Europe is where you should aim your work. I'm particularly excited about the addition of Ireland, and the Baltic countries will do an excellent job of connecting Scandinavia to the Going East DLC.
