Believe us, it is very possible with a manual gearbox. And isn't impossible, but very difficult indeed, with an automatic gearbox.

Some say, I'm addicted to ETS2. But then I say. No, it's ProMods, it's a way of life.

The tyres do slip, that's how the icy roads work. I think the truck's traction is basically quartered.

I was able to do 50-60km/h in a new Volvo FH16 750 Midlift pulling 22t quite easily, though it does require a change in driving style.

Most notable is lifting your trailing axle if you can, you want as much weight on the drive axle as you can get.

I would be looking at what changes were made to the traction profile of the custom truck you're using since it's obviously not the vanilla one.
Curry?! My manual doesn't have any data on curry... What's the meaning of this...?!

Obviously there is no traction on ice with summer tyres. :P
Trust me, I know what it is like to drive on snow and ice as that is what the conditions are in Finland for almost half the year, though I've never driven a truck. Trucks do have more traction due to their heavy weight but sometimes that isn't enough and they get stuck. And yeah, I know real life physics don't apply in ETS2 but still they can help you estimate the behaviour of the truck. ;)

Well.. Is there a way to get up there more easily with an automatic gearbox? Because it's the whole reason why I keep avoiding Iceland.
I have never driven with the manual gearbox and I'd like to find a way with the automatic one..
I don't care if I can't drive 50-60 km/h.. As long as it isn't 1-2 km/h up a hill either.

Why not use manual for these hills. You can bind a key to switch between auto and manual. Good tyres help too.

I keep wondering what areas everyone is worried about? I have driven every road up there both ways multiple times and have never had a problem. Of course I used to be a professional truck driver and know how to drive on snow and ice ...
