Longyearbyen radio installation...

I have been curious a while about an unmapped road I passed outside Longyearbyen on Svalbard, so on a recent trip just for the heck of it I went off without a trailer and explored that road. Odd to be completely off the map, travelling across empty space in the Trip Advisor screen! Anyway, the road became rougher and then snowy and then very snowy, and the grade eventually became so steep that even with manual transmission I could not get up the hill. So I cheated and flew the godcam up there :-) and found a very cool radio tower installation.

My question to whoever did Svalbard is, did you intend that road to be impossible? is there a model of truck that can make it up the grade? even in 1st gear I could not do it. My wheels just spun. Is there any way to drive a truck up there?

I as the creator have test driven this road multiple times with a bus mod and it did just fine. Also Squirrel made it in his... Scania I presume.

I finished the Road with a 4x4 Sisu with manual gear shifting.

Use a low gear and move the truck slowly from left to right to get some grip - if you get some speed gear up and repeat.

I actually made it up there in a 363hp Scania 143m :geek:

It's really cool, but trying to rest at the indicated rest point crashes the game, is that supposed to be so?

Also managed to drive up there in my Volvo (and encountered the CTD bug as I drove past the 'Government of N.W.I. Area Offices Inuvik' ;))

Oh, and I managed it all in 3rd gear (manual), crawling at less than 1km/h on the steeper bends, but it IS possible.. though make sure your fuel tank isn't too low; it cost me over 300 litres worth of fuel..! ;)
